The European Union sponsored a COST action on MS Imaging, which was active from 2012 to 2015. This stimulus allowed for the MS Imaging community to grow significantly by engaging in exchange visits, trainings, workshops and conferences.
At the end of the action, during the OurCon III meeting in Pisa, the Mass Spectrometry Imaging Society was founded with the aim to continue this initiative and providing a platform for the field.
