If you select a bin size other than 1, then this number of data points are average and imported as one data value. As an example, let’s say the data was acquired with 0.01 m/z mass resolution, but you want to analyze the data with 0.2 m/z resolution so that the whole mass range fits into memory. By selecting a bin size of 20, you achieve exactly this.
