Front Page › Forums › BioMap › the meaning of “bin size”
When I import the msi. document, the biomap often point out it was too large .But when I increase the “bin size” ,the “Import data size” was decreased. Who can help me explain the meaning of “bin size”? What does it represent?
Thank you a lot.:)
If you select a bin size other than 1, then this number of data points are average and imported as one data value. As an example, let’s say the data was acquired with 0.01 m/z mass resolution, but you want to analyze the data with 0.2 m/z resolution so that the whole mass range fits into memory. By selecting a bin size of 20, you achieve exactly this.

Thank you ~
Changing bin size is possible when importing a new MSI file into BioMap (through the import dialog box).
Is changing “Ramp” by Edit > Header > Parameter > Ramp the same as Binning?
Just to be sure. Thank you

No this will generate a linear parameter scale to the same data points. For MS data, this will just re-label the m/z axis of the existing data points.
