Front Page › Forums › Instrumentation › Laser timeout on 4800 – have others observed this?
Hello,
We have a new 4800 and are working on implementing imaging using Markus’ 4800 imaging application and BioMap. It’s looking very promising so far, but we have been getting a troubling hardware error as well. The error is a communication timeout with the laser. It seems to occur when the laser goes into standby mode (after 30 minutes, on our instrument) and is then activated by a new acquisition, or by clicking the “turn on HV” button in ABI’s “4000 series explorer” software. It doesn’t seem to matter whether it has been in standby for 24 hours or only a few minutes. The only solution we’ve identified thus far is to cycle the power on the instrument itself, something that we aren’t excited about doing. Currently I am trying to establish whether this timeout is observed during routine operation, or only in conjunction with the 4800 Imaging software. It’s looking like it may be related to the Imaging software.
If others have observed this issue, I’d like to hear about their experiences. Markus- if you know anything about whether it’s related to the 4800 Imaging app, please let me know. Also, thanks for maintaining this excellent forum!
Regards,
Greg
All,
It turns out this issue had nothing to do with the 4800 imaging software. It was caused by a flaky laser power supply. ABI replaced it and now all is well.
Thanks,
Greg
Super information:)
